DESCRIPTION

Commissioned by the Editorial Fund for Mexican Plastic Arts.

With hundreds of colour and black and white illustrations throughout with some folding plates.

5,000 copies of this text were originally published in English and 5,000 in Spanish. This is one of the 5,000 English copies.

The work begins with a brief history of Mexican art, from the pre-hispanic period through the mayans, colonial domination to the modern and present (1960) era. The writings are supported by numerous images of portraits and sculptures.

The main body of the text portrays hundreds of examples of mural art during the revolution in, as near as possible, chronological order. The accompanying description highlights the socio-political affect of this work and what the artist is portraying about the social and somewhat violent state of Mexico and the hopes and fears of its people at the time.

The Mexican Revolution was a major armed struggle (1910-20) which radically transformed Mexican culture and government.

CONDITION

In a gilt and blind stamped cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Small amount of candle wax to front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean.
