Charmingly illustrated, with sixteen coloured plates by E A Cox. Elijah Albert Cox was a London born artist who studied at Whitechapel People's Palace and at Bolt Court. He designed for a manufacturing chemist and was commissioned by the London Underground for posters.
Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, Norman J Stephenson Nov 1928.
This work celebrates English victories over Spain during the Elizabethan era and centres around the 1595 Preston Somers expedition.
Loosely inserted is the front wrap to the very scarce dustwrapper that was originally issued with this work.
A lovely, illustrated edition of this work.
CONDITION
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with light rubbing to the extremities and to the joints. A few light marks to the rear board. Minor bumping to the head and tail of spine. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, Norman J Stephenson Nov 1928. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the odd scattered spot to the fore-edge and the odd spots to pages.
