Nathaniel Hawthorne was an Amerian novelist, Dark Romantic, and short story writer. Much of his writing centres on New England, with many featuring moral allegories with Puritan inspiration. His fictional writings are in the Romantic canon, more specifically, Dark Romanticism.
CONDITION
In uniformly bound half morocco with marbled paper covered boards. Gilt stamped detailing to spines with the top edge gilted also. Externally, smart with rubbing to the spines and joints, particularly to the head and tail. Minor losses to the head of volumes XII, XI, I and VI. Small loss to volume V and the head of the front joint. Volumes II and IV have very minor losses to the head and tail of spines. Volumes X and XI are particularly rubbed to spines. Volume XII has a small loss to the top raised band. Front hinge to volume VI is slightly strained but firm with the endpapers separating from textblock, though still bound to front pastedown. Prior owner's bookplate to front pastedown, D M Coffin. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are very bright with instances of scattered spots throughout.
