All of the art work and collectibles being sold by Adams-Byrd Fine Arts & Antiques have been collected and selected one at a time by the proprietor, an art historian with many years of training and experience in university art history departments, museums, galleries, and historic sites both in the U.S. and abroad.  The business has been based in the Washington, D.C. area for many years.  The art and collectibles that we are offering to eBay buyers are special and unique pieces that have been carefully “curated” by us.   The White House and pink cherry blossoms are on the cover of this cookbook compiled and published by the Gold Star Wives of America, Inc. in 1961. You can read about the organization, founded in 1945, on their website (goldstarwives.org).  The following is from their About Us page: Gold Star Wives of America, Incorporated is an organization of widows and widowers whose spouses died while on active duty in the military services or as the result of a military service connected cause. GSW was organized in 1945 by the war widow of World War II.  It is a Congressional chartered, non-profit organization incorporated in the State of New York.  Eleanor Roosevelt signed the original GSW incorporation papers.   ............. The primary mission of GSW is to provide service, support and friendship to the widows and widowers of military personnel who died on active duty or as the result of a service connected cause. This soft cover cook book (with a plastic "spiral" binding) is a veritable Who's Who of Washington, D.C. This is a phenomenal document of America in the early 1960s.  It is a Who's Who that provides a look at the culinary favorites of the movers and shakers at the beginning of "Camelot".  The "Pride Of The Pros" provides an interesting recipe tour restaurants in D.C. and around the country. It is nicely illustrated throughout, and each section is prefaced with a full page (green) illustration. Approximate Dimensions:  8 1/2" x 6" x 3/4" Past the 216 numbered pages, there are several blank pages for notes --- and also several blank pages with the headings MY OWN FAVORITE RECIPES     and AS I LIKE IT.        The INDEX (pages 211 - 216) provides concise way to review the Who's Who of the "Favorite Recipe of" contributors.  The other categories in the INDEX are MAIN DISHES; SALADS; SAUCES; APPETIZERS AND SOUPS; BISCUITS, BREAD AND HOTCAKES; CAKES, COOKIES AND PASTRIES; DESSERTS; SIDE DISHES AND VEGETABLES; DRINKS AND HORS D'OEUVRES. This 1960s collectible from our nation's capital is in good used condition.  There is minor wear around the edges of the front and back covers (including some small corner bends).  The solid green back cover has rubs / scratches / wear and a vertical "crease".  The pages inside have been well protected by the covers.
