Perreaux SXD2: The New Zealand manufacturer offers a rigorously designed and manufactured D/A converter for its compact Silhouette range. If you are not familiar with the productions of this muscular Hi-Fi specialist, you should know that the Silhouette range is made up of amplifiers, integrated or not, mono or stereo, as well as CD players or pre-amplifiers, including the The common point is that they are all housed in identical formwork, with small measurements. Listen: Once connected, it doesn't take much time to realize that this Perreaux mini is areal. ‘The Real Thing’ the British say this much better. The sound is balanced, with even a somewhat smooth midrange and treble reproduction. Which, in particular, gives the display of voices something extra advantageous. The sound produced is very pleasant to the ear. Everything is neatly in place on the wide stage, with a natural feeling of space and air around the musicians and singing voices. There is a kind of siren calm to the sound that you could even classify as a bit lacking in bite. This DAC can easily compete with the better converters in its class. The latter is undoubtedly due to the external reduction, which leaves more budget for the development of electronics.
