Chinese Late 19th Century Imari Style (Buddhist Designs) Chinese Export Porcelain Jar
Beautiful and hard to find Chinese export porcelain Imari style jar made in the late 1800s. This is a spectacular piece. The piece is decorated in two large panel and two small panel designs. The two opposing large panels depict a bird sitting on an orange and gold flowering branch with green leaves with a green foreground and flowers. The smaller opposing panels consist of bushes with red, gold and yellow flowers. The panels are surrounded by flowers and lots of red foliage. Notable decoration are the ying yang symbols around the top of the large panel scenes. Above the base is a blue band with round red and white decorative symbols. The jar rim is glazed in a dark brown. The ground is white which wonderfully highlights the decoration. The foot is worn from age and moving. Based on the design, production and use of Buddhist symbols I believe this piece was made in the late 1800s, probably 1880s. For its age it is in amazing condition particularly since the gold is over glaze and could easily wear.
This piece is in excellent as made condition with no chips or cracks. There are some errors in glazing as expected on wonderful handmade pieces. As stated above this piece is in amazing condition for its age and must have resided in a protected cabinet all these years. Please study the photographs and blow them up to inspect the piece, they are part of the description.
This is a notable Imari style Chinese export piece because of the quality of decoration and condition.
