MINT ! An interesting and for many little known PDU label! The PDU was born in 1967 on the initiative of Mina and her father Giacomo Mazzini, with the main objective of producing and distributing the records of the Tigre di Cremona. For fiscal reasons the headquarters are established in Schaan, Liechtenstein, while the commercial offices are located in Lugano, Switzerland, in via Pioda 9; however, until 1984 some offices were maintained in Milan in Via Senato. During the first years of activity he followed many other artists besides Mina, including I Domodossola, Tihm, Aulehla & Zappa, Marita, Johnny Sax, Milena, Marisa Sacchetto and the songwriters Roberto Ferri and Luigi Grechi. Beginning in 1972, the publication of jazz albums also began, with performers such as Renato Sellani, Giorgio Gaslini, Bruno Tommaso, Romano Mussolini, Martial Solal, Gaetano Liguori, Guido Mazzon, Andrea Centazzo and others. Some of these albums were marked on the cover, by genre, with a small drawing of an animal (a butterfly for the "light", a rooster for the "jazz", a turtle for the "avant-garde" and a peacock for the "pages" famous ", the latter used only in the" Auditorium "series) Subsequently, the activity of discovering and launching new talents was neglected, and the PDU has increasingly become Mina's personal home; the only exception of some importance is the Audio 2. The two albums published in the nineties by Massimiliano Pani as a singer-songwriter and a series of albums by artists he produced were also released under the PDU label: "Audio 2", "Pato Garcia" , "Proxima", "The Event", "Massimo Bozzi" and others. Distributed by Durium until 1970, by the Italian EMI until 1996, it passed under the direct control of RTI from 1997 to 1999; since 1999 it has been distributed by Sony Music (first through the S4 sub-label, which distinguished all the ex-RTI production, then directly by the Japanese-American label). In turn, for some years the PDU has been involved in the promotion of its sub-label, the Sun, and a parallel catalog of classical music (also including some contemporary music titles) was opened, the "Auditorium" series which appeared in October 1971. After the distribution agreement with EMI, agreements were made with the Argentine label Fermata Records, also linked to the same distributor, for the publication in Argentina, Brazil and neighboring countries of the production of Mina. Consequently, the PDU released albums in Italy from the catalog of the South American subsidiary with music by local performers, but also by Italian authors, such as Enrico Simonetti with his 100% Samba recorded and originally published only in Brazil. Another production and distribution agreement was established in the mid-seventies with the German avant-garde labels Ohr, Brain, Kosmische Musik, Pilz and Kosmische Kuriere. Noteworthy are the publications of Sonanze by Roberto Cacciapaglia and the homonyms of Logan Dwight and Cincinnato. From its origins to 1973, the label is black with silver lettering and the logo at the bottom; subsequently the graphics will be changed and the logo will be moved to the right. The albums co-produced with Kosmische Kurriere feature the German label logo on one side, again in silver print on a black background. Only for a very few releases, marked with the words "Disco-Reggae", a two-tone brown label was used; this both on the albums and on the single extracts. Some of Mina's albums feature a custom label. The catalog, as regards the albums, has the suffix PLD.A. and a numbering starting from 5001 (Dedicated to my father of Mina) up to 7075 (Mensaje de tango by Angel "Pato" Garcia) of 1991, the year in which the cataloging as an independent label is effectively discontinued. Individuals use the suffix P.A. from 1001 by Roberto Ferri to 1155 of The Event of 1987. The Auditorium series uses the AC cataloging with a numbering starting from 60001. The series includes three main series "Classic Live", "Famous Pages" and "Auditorium Classic ". The first album in the series, "Concerts for three harpsichords BWV 1063 and BWV 1064 by Johann Sebastian Bach PLD.AC.60001 has the matrix date of 1 October 1971. SUN uses the LD.A. catalog for its albums starting from 13001 by Johnny Sax and for singles the suffix SU.A. from the number 3001. EMI will reissue most of the albums in Mina's catalog throughout the eighties, until the first disappearance of vinyl from large-scale distribution. Reprints can be identified by the change in the label for titles prior to 1973 and, in some cases, by the change of the catalog number (the "A" is sometimes replaced by an “M"). Even some graphic details such as a general simplification of the covers, elimination of external laminations and the absence of the internal "flap", and the updating of the matrix numbers printed in the empty grooves around the label are useful for recognizing reprints. In 1996 it was acquired by RTI Music S.p.a., a company of the Mediaset Group. In 1999 the Mediaset Group sells PDU and RTI Music to Sony Music Entertainment Italy S.p.A. [1] Some albums, such as the second by Anita Traversi or that of Domodossola - albeit with a cover (standard that of Traversi, the original one of the Piedmontese group), never arrived in stores, as well as a certain quantity of Mina singles released only for purposes promotional even if cataloged with the alphanumeric of those normally on the market. Among the singles reserved for the juke-box circuit there are Nuur / Mr. Blue which has no official counterpart (from Mina "R" no single was extracted for the Italian market) and the forty-five revs equally divided between Mina and Logan Dwight with original photographic cover. Starting in 1971, in order to renew the practice of concert events with new formulas, the Scarlatti Association organized the Ensemble Music Weeks; during them, Italian and foreign soloists, with the guidance of Salvatore Accardo, gathered to study, concert and perform "ensemble music" by the most varied authors and the most unusual instrumental ensemble. The result was an extraordinary interest on the part of the public, especially young people, who began to acquire new familiarity with pages of chamber music considered "difficult" or forgotten. In fact, the public was also admitted to the rehearsals, which took place during the day. The great merit of the success of "ensemble music" - as the initiative was commonly called - is due to its creator and organizer, Gianni Eminente, consultant of the Scarlatti Association, as well as to the skill and availability of artists such as Salvatore Accardo , a real driver of an ever-changing team, but centered around a group of aficionados such as Dino asciolla, Rocco Filippini, Pierre Amoyal, Victor Martin, Sylvie Gazeau, Alain Meunier, Christian Ivaldi, Régis Pasquier, Bruno Canino, Carlo Bruno, Mariana Sirbu, Franco Petracchi, Giorgio Zagnoni, Claus Kanngiesser, Antony Pay, Michele Campanella, Bruno Giuranna and many others. After a long period of success, in the early nineties, the initiative went through a pause that lasted until 1998, when - to satisfy the numerous requests of the public - the Scarlatti Association has decided to breathe new life into this event, entrusting its artistic direction to the violonce French illustrator Alain Meunier, present since the first editions of the 1970s. THE CLASSIC Mr. Mazzini, Mina's father was a great admirer of classical music and wanted to include a special section in the PDU Catalog. He acquired the rights of other labels for the republication of some works. In addition, the PDU became the promoter and collaborator of musical projects that came out exclusively on this label only. Examples of this are some prints from the Bologna Festival Musica 1982, unpublished works of first world publication and the long collaboration with the International FESTVAL Musica D’Insieme-Naples. Salvatore Accardo and Martha Argerich regularly collaborated with the latter. Fortunately, the artistic director of the Gianni Eminente Association wanted to record all the concerts, which turned out to be not only qualitatively valid from the point of view of reproduction, but also of a very high level as regards the artistic side. Later the music producer Jurg Grand asked eminent for permission to make records from these recordings. Each disc inside is always accompanied by an introductory and critical text of the work. We find some names such as Gabriella Mazzola, Enrico Lepari, Agostino Borromeo, internationally renowned musicologists and music critics. GOOD LISTENING! BUON ASCOLTO ! Mint The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
