- No need to pick up the eggs as the torch has a flexible stem To activate remove the plastic white circle in the base where the batteries are. Note: Can be used to check fertility of eggs, which will show up approx 4 days after laying. Use in a dark room or nest box. Do not pick up eggs with your fingers as bacteria can pass through to the embryo. If you need to pick up the eggs I would advise using proper egg tongs or a small plastic spoon but be very careful.
