These Double Suction Pumps are built in

single stage only, with horizontally divided cas-

ing to permit inspection of the impeller with-

out disturbing piping, and the high efficiency

Buffalo Double Suction Impeller which is al-

ways in hydraulic balance.

CASING:

The casing is horizontally divided, suction and dis-

charge nozzles being cast in the lower half, permit-

ting the removal of the upper half so the interior

parts can be inspected or removed without disturb-

ing the pipe connections. The machined casing has

flanges secured together with heavy bolts. Water

passages are simply formed and of ample area to

avoid friction losses and sudden changes of velocity.

The pump is in perfect hydraulic balance under all

conditions of head and pressure.

IMPELLER:

Water enters the double suction hydraulically bal-

anced impeller opposite sides in equal volume and

pressure, thus securing the perfect hydraulic balance

referred to.

Impellers can be made of cast iron, bronze or alloys,

as desired.

Every impeller is accurately tested to see that it is

in perfect balance.

On special order open type impellers can be fur-

nished.

In such cases clearance rings are omitted

CLEARANCE RINGS:

Bronze clearance rings are furnished in the casing

surrounding the impeller inlets. These are easily re-

newable and in case of wear, these rings only, and

not the casing itself, must be replaced. Leakage is

prevented and high efficiency maintained.

BEARINGS:

Bearings are located at each end of the casing and

contained in heavy cast iron bracket housings. De-

pending on the service, ring-oiled bronze or ball

bearings are used.

STUFFING BOXES:

Stuffing boxes are cast in each end of the pump cas-

ing. They are deep and provide for an ample amount

of packing which is furnished with the pump. Bronze

throat-liners are furnished.

GLANDS:

Packing glands are the swing-bolt type and are cast

iron or bronze.

Double Suction Pumps

'HE Self-priming Pump has advantages which no other pump can have.

Among these are:

(1) Positive prime is obtained almost instantly when pump is started.

(2) No foot valve is required.

(3) All working parts of the pump are above the liquid to be pumped.

(4) There is complete access to all parts of the installation.

To the desirable performance characteristics of Buffalo Double Suction Low

and High Pressure Pumps is now added the convenience, proven reliability

and desirable economy of a self-priming device built under license from the

Nash Engineering Company.

The common methods of mounting the primer on Buffalo Double Suction

Pumps, particularly on small pumps, is illustrated above: This shows a

Double Suction Type, with primer mounted on extended

pump

shaft.

For larger pumps or where comparatively slow speed motor is used, the

primer is mounted on the pump base with independent motor drive, and

is arranged to cut-out when pump is primed, or continue to run, as desired.
