Marcantonio Mambelli, 1582 - 1664, was a Jesuit scholar, known for his Observations on the Italian Language. He gained the nickname Cinonio as a member of the prestigious Academy of Filergiti. He travelled and studied in both Rome and Germany, where he stayed for near a decade.
George James Welbore Agar-Ellis, 1st Baron Dover PC FRS FSA, 1797 1833, was a British politician and man of letters. In 1824 Agar-Ellis was the leading promoter of the foundation for the National Gallery. Alongside his political endeavours and positions, Agar-Ellis was president of the Royal Society of Literature in 1832, a trustee of the British Museum and of the National Gallery, and a commissioner of public records.
CONDITION
In full calf binding. Externally, smart with loss of the spine label to volume one two. With some light splitting and rubbing to the joints and spines. Some marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
