How to feed a gouldian chick from hatching (and similar)A finch is tiny when it hatches and only needs to be fed after 12-24 hours after hatching.Mix up a tiny amount of rearing food which is watery to start with, Dip the end of the toothpick Into the mixture and place ONE OR TWO DROPS into the chicks mouth, every half / 1 hour or so DO NOT USE A SYRINGE.Increase the amount of food thickness and quantity as the chick grows. The flexi tips will not damage the crop as they are very soft. You can remove the flexi tips by pulling off but they can be left on and dipped in the food, no need to remove for cleaning. When chicks are big enough to take a 1ml syringe on its own ie 2 weeks, simply suck up the mixture and plunge gently into the mouth at small intervals of the chicks natural feeding bobbing motion. Feeding with the syringe in this way is similar to the parents beak size. If a chick is very sick and simply not asking for food, suck up a small amount of food with flexi tip attached and gently open the chicks mouth and pass down into the crop, slowly fill with food. Never over fill the crop as the chicks windpipe is just behind the tounge and if you over fill the mouth with food the chick can choke, I know as i have done it and its heartbreaking. So little and often rather than too much is Ideal. From day 1 and 2 only a few drops at a timeDay 3 to 7 the crop will expand and will take more food each day.Day 14 onwards a full 1ml syringe. It is all trial and error and sometimes it can go wrong and chicks can die even if you try your best, i have been hand rearing my neglected birds since 2001 and it can take a while to master. I have a gouldian who i hand reared in 2003 and he will be 11 this year and is completly tame.I am Currently Hand feeding 6 chicks from 3 different pairs as seen in the picture after their feed. Please feel free to message me for any advice Ingredients:Ground Corn, Ground Wheat, Corn Gluten Meal, Ground Oat Groats, Wheat Middlings, Soy Oil, Dried Whole Egg, Soy Protein Isolate, Dried Beet Pulp, Soybean Meal, Ground Flax Seed, Dicalcium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, L-Lysine, Wheat Germ Meal, Brewers Dried Yeast, Vitamin A Supplement, Salt, Algae Meal (source of DHA), L-Arginine, Fructooligosaccharide, Choline Chloride, DL-Methionine, Potassium Chloride, Yeast Extract, Propionic Acid (a preservative), Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Mixed Tocopherols (a preservative), L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Manganous Oxide, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of vitamin K activity), Niacin, Rosemary Extract, Citric Acid, Ethoxyquin (a preservative), Calcium Pantothenate, Copper Sulfate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Cholecalciferol (source of vitamin D3), Folic Acid, Beta-Carotene, Calcium Iodate, Biotin, Cobalt Carbonate, Sodium Selenite, Dried A. oryzae Fermentation Extract, Dried Bacillus subtilis Fermentation Extract, Dried Bacillus licheniformis Fermentation Product, Dried Bacillus subtilis Fermentation Product.
