ARTIFACT: Interesting old 1930’s shipping box that once shipped fire badges from S. M. Spencer Co. to the Reading, Massachusetts Fire Department. The box shows a 3¢ stamp and is addressed: “TOWN OF READING FIRE DEPT. READING MASS. ATTN CHIEF” and beneath it reads: “FROM S. M. SPENCER MFG. CO. Die Sinkers and Engravers, Steel Stamps, Box (?) Stencils, Rubber Stamps Seals, Badges and all Goods connected with the business. 3 CORNHILL, BOSTON, MASS.” One side of the box reads: “BADGES” in handwritten ink (see photo).

CONDITION: 5+ (Fine-): The shipping box shows moderate to heavy wear, mostly around edges, the address is clear and the stamp in is moderate condition, the box has seen heavy storage/age wear, but time has only added to the character of this box. Sturdy and shows no broken corners and the lid and bottom fit nicely together.
