A pear cut Australian Opal that demonstrates why Opals from "down under" are so sought after. There is a small dark area on a part of the stone but this is blown away by how bright the flash is. All 4 colors are present on an N7 body color. Red, probably the most highly prized Opal color, is the most dominant with yellow, green and blue present in equal amounts. The flash is present on both sides of the cut, opening up lots of setting possibilities. All my gems come with a small gift. It is just a little fun to go with your purchase. To make it interesting for those who want the challenge of identifying the gem themselves, the gem id is in a closed slip.

Australian Opal is probably the most recognised and sought after of all the Opal types / localities. It is synonymous with extremely bright flash on either white or black body colors. Everyone has their own personal preferences but, in general, red is the most valuable flash, followed by orange, green, blue and purple, in that order. This is mainly due to the physics of where the colors lay in the spectrum, but personal choice will always win. A further factor in choosing an Opal will be the pattern in which the colors are displayed. There are far more names for Opal patterns than I have room to go into here, but I’ll leave it by mentioning that the Harlequin pattern is what you will see on most exceptional quality Gems, in museums and collections. Those amongst us interested in the metaphysical properties of Opals will most likely be discussing all things positive, from optimism to creativity and love. Opal also serves as the birthstone for October.
