Nordic Runes Elder Futhark Viking Sunstone / Icelandic Spa / Clear Calcite with Black Obsidian Inlay Condition is New. Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class. These are handmade Runes, as far as I know completely unique. This particular set is made from Viking Sunstone. Where possible I source the rocks I use from reputable sources. I prefer to have the rocks supplied in the 'out of the ground' condition. that way I can ensure they are genuine, as importantly It means I can crush the rock to suit my projects. These are by far, understandably, my most popular set with sets sold to Canada, USA, Germany, UK, Norway...... They are absolutely beautiful. Viking Sunstone is an alternative name for Optical Calcite or Icelandic Spar. It's found all over the world, particularly where Limestone is mined and comes in various colours and 'cloudiness'. It is not easy to get hold of quality clear / optical Calcite. It's called Viking Sunstone as it was, and apparently until recently, used to locate the Sun for navigation at sea when the Sun couldn't be seen ie on cloudy days. Googled : If you put a dot on top of the crystal and look through it from below, two dots will appear. "Then you rotate the crystal until the two points have exactly the same intensity or darkness. At that angle, the upward-facing surface indicates the direction of the Sun," Clever eh! It's able to do this as Calcite will polarize light. If you shine a laser at the Runes the light just bounces all over the place completely illuminating the whole Runes.....I know, but the light refraction characteristics of the Gem fascinated me. I try where I can to get hold of Calcite that has the 'rainbow' look to it. As these are hand finished there is a variation in sizes as you would expect but it is minimal. This particular set is READY to go. If however you wish to have a different inlay or even a mix of inlays then there is a 28 day turnaround. Each set, unless otherwise specified will be made from scratch to your specification. Contact me first with your requirements so I can make sure I have the materials at hand. Kyanite for instance is very expensive, I generally purchase as I need it. Above are examples of the clear Quartz Runes with other inlays ; Garnet ; Mixed Gem; Kyanite ; Green Aventurine and of course the beautiful Thulite Please note pictures are for illustrative purposes - the set you get may vary as each rock is unique, but will be of the same quality.
